The key building block of wire rope encompasses a thin metallic wire which represents the smallest component of a wire rope. These wires are spun around the core to form a wire rope altogether. The foundation element that makes up the core can be made using non-steel materials like polypropylene, jute or sisal. The core material relies on its tensile strength, with multiple symmetric strands lending the required structural strength.
Slings are fabricated by twisting an ordinary wire rope. These exhibit the application-oriented form of the wire ropes made using galvanized steel or black rope. The end fittings of slings consist of custom made hooks, loops and other shape formed fittings, specific to the end use. Slings find its applications in heavy-duty industries, transportation and securing multipoint detachable suspensions. Slings offer an ideal solution to the application that necessitates secure fastening with uniform load distribution.
Strand represents a constitutional pattern of placing six or more wires wrapped around a central axial member. This geometric pattern follows a helical form that acts as the major portion of the load bearing entity. Strand can constitute ‘n’ number of wires which stays true for rope as it can incorporate ‘n’ number of strands. The important part that underpins this structure comes through its backbone element – the core, it not only supports the strands but helps maintain their relative position under demanding stresses.
